F6 Group launches and makes first investments in Egypt
After founding international VC firm Sawari Ventures in 2010, Hany Al-Sonbaty and Ahmed El Alfi established F6 Group (then Flat6Labs) to focus on seed stage investments. Since its inception, the group has been committed to enabling entrepreneurs to launch market-leading, tech-driven ventures that positively impact emerging economies.
The launch of the first institutional funds in Egypt and Tunisia
The group established the Flat6Labs Accelerator Company, a seed fund worth over EGP 200M, to invest in startups with high growth potential in Egypt. It also launched the TND 29M Anava Seed Fund in Tunisia to enable startups that aim to drive innovation-based and knowledge- driven industries.
Celebrating the first major exit with Hawaya
After partaking in Flat6Labs’ Cairo Seed Program, Muslim dating app Hawaya launched and gained traction across several markets around the world. As a result, it was acquired by global player Match Group in 2019, generating up to 16X its initial investment.
10 years of impact and the launch of new funds
F6 Group celebrated a decade of strong investments across the MENA region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, with some of its portfolio startups achieving regional and global impact. In continuation of its mission, the group also launched three new funds during 2021: Jordan Seed Fund in Jordan, Startup Seed Fund in Saudi Arabia, and Tech Accelerator Company in the UAE.
Expanding within Africa and concluding first institutional funds
Recognizing an abundance of opportunities in North, East, and West Africa, F6 Group began establishing the Africa Seed Fund to further its investments in the continent. The $95M fund is headquartered in Egypt is being established with the support of GIZ’s Agricultural Innovation Project (AIP) and Scaling Digital Agriculture Innovations through Start-ups (SAIS) project. This year also marked the first close of the Startup Seed Fund in Saudi Arabia.
Launching F6 Ventures
F6 Group officially realigned its operations in 2025 to enable stronger, focused impact. Its investment mandate operates under F6 Ventures, now the MEA region’s leading seed venture capital firm, with continuing plans to support startups across promising markets within and beyond its current footprint.

How?
A dual investment strategy. Through our seed program investments, we fund 20–25 early-stage startups through two cohorts each year, and our direct investments support promising ventures outside the program. We’re also committed beyond the first check across both streams and provide follow-on funding to around 40% of our portfolio.
